Volunteer Opportunities

We are very thankful to our volunteers who make all of our events happen!

*Volunteer deposit - $250 per family in the form of a check. This will be returned to you if you meet your volunteer requirements. Please bring this check to the first week of practice.

*Each family will be required to volunteer for 6 regular season shifts + 1 divisional shift for the 2026 season.

Volunteer Check-in

All volunteers for the day of the meet need to check in with the volunteer coordinator by 7:45 AM on the day of the meet to get your sticker. If you don’t check in, either in person or by email or text to let her know you will be at the meet, she will start filling unclaimed positions from the wait list. If you are replaced you will be considered a “no show” and will be in jeopardy of losing your volunteer deposit.

VOLUNTEER DESCRIPTIONS

Position Description
Swim Meet Officials Include 1 Referee, 1 Starter, and 6 Stroke ‘n’ Turn Officials. Home and visiting teams split these responsibilities over two shifts. Officials must be trained by NWAL. Visit www.nwalcertified.org and create an account for more information and schedules for classes.
Clerk of Course and Computer Assistant The Clerk of Course is responsible for all of the paperwork at the meet before the swimmers swim. This includes check-in, seeding, preparation and distribution of cards or lane timing record forms. Also included are the preparation, posting and distribution of heat sheets for deck seeded events to all appropriate officials coaches.
Awards and Ribbons Organizes, labels and distributes the placement ribbons for each meet in family boxes for pickup by the families.
Concessions
Coordinator
Ensure all families submit any drink and snack donations. Order all food required for concession sales at all team events requiring concession items. Deliver all funds to the Treasurer at the end of each concession sale.
Lapathon Coordinator  Promote and execute Lightning Laps fundraiser. Solicit in-kind donations from local businesses for Lapathon raffle and silent auction. Collect raffle and silent auction donations from Swim Team members. Set-up raffle and silent auction, including bid sheets or electronic auction. 
Ready Bench The Ready Bench is the key to keeping the meet on schedule. These volunteers organize the swimmers into heats and ensure they report correctly before the start of each event.
Swim Meet Set- up Responsible for set-up of various canopies, tables, trash cans, parking plan, etc., prior to each home meet.
Timers/ Scribe 3 Timers and 1 scribe per lane are needed. Home and visiting teams split these responsibilities over two shifts.
Runner Collects completed time entries from the scribes and provides them to the scoring team to enter in the computer. Also keeps the water flowing to the officials, timers, and scribes.
Scoring / Computer Team that runs swim team meet manager and team manager programs. Gathers and enters swimmers information, times from all heats and events, and produces results lists.
Fun Fridays Works with Events Coordinator to arrange social events before and after practices on Fridays that help keep the enthusiasm going throughout the season.
